![]() ![]() It scratches a very particular itch, but if you even remotely liked Wizardry, Bards Tale, or the old (pre 6) Might and Magic games, you are gonna love this. More than anything, this game reminds me of Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land on PS2. Not anime inspired at all (thank you Atlus!), but more of a dark american, kind of thing. That said, you spend EXP like money on levels, skills, and abilities, and you can say, buy one level of Mage, and then one level of thief, so you are never stuck with a class you don't like. ![]() For example, there are four main classes, and six or eight specialty ones. It also has some very nice game mechanics. There is lots of grinding required, but the battles are super quick, and the lure of exploring keeps you coming back. In case you havent explored the level entirely, enter the door behind the. Dark Spire is *tough*, and it's very easy to get your whole party wiped out. Watch a scene at (1,14) and then head down to (5,2), the area you were sent to during the original events 3F. ![]() Like Wizardry, it makes games like Final Fantasy and the usual jrpg crowd look like they were designed for toddlers. It's a first person dungeon crawler, and an RPG in the original sense where you make an entire party of characters yourself, and then take them into a massive dungeon full or tricks, traps, and puzzles. The Dark Spire is a new Atlus RPG that is a beautifully shameless throwback to the Wizardry series. Here's another gem that's going to slip way under the radar.
